Pet Thoughts

Pets are great. They offer us a chance to nurture and interact with someone we love. They give us the opportunity to provide for them. They love us back in their own way. They love to play. What is more fun than watching your dog or dogs running around the yard, chasing a ball or each other?

Pet affection is judgement free. They are just happy to see you. So you are having a bad day when in comes your pet all kisses and "hugs" to brighten your day. What more could you ask? No questions, no nagging "What’s wrong", no explanations necessary – the perfect therapy.

Pets can ward off loneliness. People have other responsibilities and can’t always be around. Pets do not have other obligations they are just devoted to their owners. Sometimes you just need someone to listen and they are more than happy to oblige. You can tell them anything, you secret is safe.

Pets need us. They rely on us for everything. When they are hungry we feed them. When they are sick we get them medical care. When they need attention we give it to them. We offer them companionship.

Tidbits about Seafood

What do you think of when you think seafood? Do you think of Lobster, shrimp, crab, clams, and fish – any kind of fish or just ocean fish? Do you think of seaweed or kelp, which is also seafood? Is fresh water fish seafood? Have you ever thought about this? I, personally, think that seafood must be from the ocean.

Seafood tastes great, if you like seafood. I love shrimp and crab the most. I am not as fond of lobster. Clams can be good but they can also be tough and hard to swallow. I have never tried oysters or shark. What is your favorite?

Seafood has health benefits. Shrimp is an example of great low-fat high protein source. Some ocean fish, such as herring, mackerel, and sardines supply Omega 3 fatty acids, which can stimulate blood circulation and reduce certain types of negative cholesterol in the blood. Seafood is great addition to any weight-reducing plan.

There are so many ways to prepare seafood. Grilling is great, especially to keep the fat content done. Sometimes, though, a piece of fish in a rich sauce is just to die for. My mom makes the best bluefish, with just a strip of mustard along the top.

Check out "All Fresh Seafood" at http://www.shareasale.com/r.cfm?B=85860&U=192132&M=13144 for your seafood needs.

Why use a hand reel mower?

I, myself, have a reel mower. There are many reasons why these environmentally friendly machines make sense.

First and foremost, they DO NOT USE GAS. It is a small but effective way to save some money while keeping some of those pesky hydrocarbons out of the air, YOUR AIR. It may only seem like saving pennies, but those pennies add up. Gas can also spill while filling a tank, which is another waste of your hard earned money.

Second, upkeep is minimal. Basically, the blades have to be sharpened periodically. Think what it costs to take care of the mowers with motors. You have to check the oil as well as the fuel in the gas mowers. Then add the cost of regular yearly maintenance needed by mowers with motors. Of course, there are the breakdowns and trips to the repair shop. (Don't forget the cost of transporting your machine to the repair shop.) The money is really starting to add up. What's worse, when does it breakdown - right before the big party or family gathering.

Third, the workout. This can be a great way to get some cardiovascular exercise, provided your health permits. Burn some calories and build some muscle for free.

Fourth, the environment. This is a great way to take care of your lawn the green way. Your are not emiting fumes into the air. A gas powered mower emits more pollution than a car in the same time period. Another bonuse is that you are not adding to noise pollution. These are the quiet machines, unlike mowers with a motor. You can mow your lawn anytime without disturbing anyone with the noise. This is a great way to feel good about doing something to improve the environment while keeping your lawn, neat and trim.
So take a minute and check out "ecomowers environmental elements" for your green mower needs: http://www.shareasale.com/r.cfm?B=115850&U=192132&M=16511

Home Cooking

A home cooked meal is an interesting way of connecting with family and friends. It can be a way to start a new friendship, such as inviting the new neighbors over. When someone takes the time to prepare a meal it says you are worth some effort. When you take the time to plan and prepare a meal you a pouring yourself into the meal. You are effectively sharing yourself with your guests.

What you cook says alot about who you are, how you are feeling, and what the occasion means to you. Cooking something you, yourself, find delicious is self-fulfilling. Cooking something that someone else loves, but is not one of your favorites, can be considered self-sacrificing. Cooking something that you and your guest both love can be very bonding. Cooking something new lets your adventuresome side out. Sometimes we cook to survive - we are just too tired to care, so we make what is easiest.

Home cooking can allow our creative, artistic selves to be free. Carefully slicing and chopping the food, the art of placing the food on the serving plates, how we set up the table, and the final presentation of the meal all let our inner artist out. The pride we can feel when we get it right and get the response we want makes it all worth it.

The Victorian Art of Paper Filigree (Quilling)

Quilling is a craft that dates back to the Middle Ages. Originally thin strips of paper were rolled and formed into intricate patterns to decorate and embellish different objects.I myself have made a small baby grand piano with all 88 keys and the workings under the top. I have made small intricate birds with feathers. Quilling can be intricate but it does not have to be.

Christmas ornaments and decorations are poplar quilled items, especially the snowflakes.

Today's Quillers use either a quilling tool (reminds me of a pencil with a thin metal post sticking out of it) or a pin. I, myself, love to use the traditional, old-fashioned hat pin. The paper is usually anywhere from 1/16 to 1/4 of an inch wide. The paper is twirled around the pin in a tight circle. Then you carefully remove the circle from the pin and work it. You may want a loose circle so let it expand.

After you have decided if you want a tight or loose circle you glue (using the smallest amount of glue possible) the end down. Then you can shape the circle into another shape if you wish, depending on your project. You can also choose not to glue the end down and creat scrolls, hearts, etc. as well as other wispy pieces for your project. The piano is mostly done in scrolls. (These are obtained by rolling each end in the opposite direction).

These small rolled pieces of paper can then be puzzled together to form a pattern or shape. You can make flowers, jewelry, pictures, whatever you want.

Small children can Quill as well, though they usually start by twirling the paper around a toothpick. This also can help develop their dexterity.

I love to quill and have been at it since I was 12 years old. Thanks for listening.
